I held my first guitar when I was 6 years old, incorrectly and out of tune. It was a Yamaha Classical that my mum had kept from when she was younger. Soon after I was to get a guitar of my own, one more suiting to my smaller stature. I started guitar lessons later that year, learning a few basics chords and a couple of strumming patterns. At first I didn’t care much for those ‘thin guitars’ or electric guitars as the rest of the world knew them, until I got one. It was a green Samick, and soon became a part of who I was.
By the time I reached high school I had began writing songs, not very good songs, but songs all the same. Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Joe Satriani and Tommy Emmanuel were some of my main influences, and it was through trying to emulate their technique that I began to develop my own.
Archers was a turning point in my songwriting. I had just bought a 12 string guitar, and this was the first song I wrote on it. I think it was the first song I had written that I felt reflected the direction I wanted my music to take. I would spend the next few years working on both my songwriting and technique. In 2008 I started writing The Math, which was the first real step I felt since Archers. A years hard work drew to an end with an 11 track album and an equal number of b-sides.
Having spent the last three years at university studying video and design, I'm currently working for an independent film studio as junior editor. When I'm not working I spend my time on songwriting. Up until recently I had done all the publishing, producing and artwork for my albums by myself. Having a job has allowed me to diversify and get other artists to do some of that work, allowing me to concentrate more on my music.
At time I find where I live to be quite bleak. These past few years have been shrouded in melancholy. My goal for this year is to write a happy pop album. I even bought a Ukulele to prove it. I also plan to read more, and get out.

I've been brought to tears trying to fine happiness here. Yet no matter how bad things become, knowing that God will never forsake me, brings a joy that lets me keep going. As I go through life, I have begun to see this to be true for some of my friends, and they have been made all the more beautiful because of it.
